SCIENCE AND QUESTIONs
Myrcene is a colourless hydrocarbon classified as a monoterpene. Cannabis too is a rich source of myrcene and some strain specific data (1) shows that up to 65% of the steam-distilled essential oil from cannabis (Cannabis sativa L) is myrcene. Various rodent studies (2) have shown a sedative-like effect with myrcene which includes muscle relaxation, faster sleep induction and longer sleep periods.
Additional Terpenes: Terpinolene, Citral, Limonene
What is CBD?
CBD, known as cannabidiol, is one of more than 100 cannabinoids present in Cannabis sativa. CBD is a fat-soluble, non-toxic compound that interacts with cannabinoid receptors in the human body that collectively make up the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a vital system and involved in a number of processes including pain signalling, reward processing, appetite regulation, mood control and general metabolism. While CBD is psychoactive, influencing signalling in the brain, it does not inebriate users or otherwise make them feel ‘high’ in anyway.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are a large class of natural hydrocarbons mainly produced by plants as a means of defence against insects and as a way to attract pollinators. They have a very diverse aroma profile and are responsible for many of the most beautiful natural smells in the world. Limonene for example is produced by cannabis but also by citrus fruits like lemon and provides a mouth-watering, sweet and citrus aroma. Terpenes are a key component of cannabis sativa. While terpenes are a separate class of compounds to cannabinoids, terpenes themselves have been shown to have beneficial physiological effects and may work in conjunction with cannabinoids like CBD to produce heightened, synergistic effects.
Will this get me high?
While CBD is psychoactive, influencing signalling in the brain, it does not inebriate users or otherwise make them feel ‘high’ in anyway. This feeling of being high is usually associated with another cannabinoid found in cannabis called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC has been entirely removed from our products using advanced and reliable separation methods and confirmed by 3rd party lab reports.
Is this legal?
CBD (cannabidiol) is entirely legal under UK law and in most of Europe. You are entirely within your rights to use CBD-based products in the UK as well as many other countries around the world but always check on the specific law of your destination country if you are planning to travel with CBD products.
